  • Howard Calhoun, LCMHCS, LCAS, CCS, LPCS

    Clinical Consultant | Behavior Balance, PLLC

    Howard Calhoun is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Supervisor (LCMHC, LCMHCS), Licensed Addictions Counselor (LCAS), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), Licensed School Counselor in North Carolina. In South Carolina he is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC, LPCS), as well as Licensed Addiction Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor Supervisor (LAC, LACS). With over 25 years of experience in law enforcement, education, and clinical behavioral health, Howard brings a unique and comprehensive perspective to therapeutic care and leadership.

    His professional background includes extensive service with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Department, the North Carolina Department of Corrections, and the Division of Probation and Parole, where he held roles as a dispatcher, auxiliary deputy, program supervisor, and probation/parole officer. Howard also served five years in North Carolina public schools as a special education teacher and school counselor.

    As a clinician, Howard has supported individuals facing a broad range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, relationship challenges, anger management, parenting concerns, and reentry transitions. He has also worked extensively with clients impacted by physical and emotional trauma, sexual abuse, and suicidal ideation. Previously, he served as the CEO and owner of a multi-site mental health and substance use treatment agency, overseeing more than 130 employees across North and South Carolina.

    Howard’s counseling style is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based, with a focus on empowerment, personal responsibility, and compassion. His approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Existential Therapy, ensuring that each treatment plan is tailored to the unique needs of every client.

    Beyond his professional life, Howard enjoys reading, studying, and traveling. A lifelong learner, he believes in freedom, responsibility, accountability, and the right of every individual to pursue their best self.

  • Paula Fleming, LCMHCS, LCAS, CCS, LPCS

    Paula Fleming is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Clinical Mental Health Supervisor (LCMHC, LCMHCS), Licensed Addictions Counselor (LCAS), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), Licensed School Counselor in North Carolina. In South Carolina she is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC, LPCS), as well as Licensed Addiction Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor Supervisor (LAC, LACS). Originally from the United Kingdom and of proud West Indian descent, Paula brings more than 20 years of clinical experience and a deeply compassionate approach to her work.

    Her professional journey began in 1989 in the United States Air Force as a Mental Health Specialist, where she developed a strong foundation in behavioral health care. She has worked for the Dept of Corrections as a Rehabilitation and Behavioral Specialist. Vocational Rehabilitation, Group Home Consultant and School Counselor. She has worked extensively with children, teens, and adults facing a range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, anger management, and family crises.

    Previously, she served as the Clinical Director and co-owner of a multi-site mental health and substance use treatment agency, overseeing more than 130 employees across North and South Carolina.

    Paula is known for her warm, interactive counseling style and her commitment to treating every client with dignity, respect, and sensitivity. She strongly believes in a person-centered approach that avoids stigmatizing labels and empowers individuals on their healing journey.

    Outside of her clinical work, Paula enjoys traveling, exploring new cuisines — especially Indian and Jamaican food — and expressing her creativity through crafts such as cross stitch, wreath making, and jewelry design.

  • Jo Cromarty, MAHS

    Chief Executive Officer | Behavior Balance, PLLC

    Jo Cromarty is a seasoned leader in behavioral health operations with a career spanning over 15 years across human services, mental health, and substance use treatment. Known for her strategic vision, hands-on leadership, and deep understanding of complex service delivery systems, Jo has built a reputation for driving operational excellence and advancing access to quality behavioral healthcare.

    Throughout her career, Jo has successfully led program development, crisis stabilization initiatives, outpatient service expansions, and compliance readiness strategies for organizations of varying sizes — from local community providers to national behavioral health platforms. Her operational leadership has been instrumental in launching and scaling programs in multiple states, strengthening regulatory compliance, and ensuring that organizations meet or exceed TJC, CARF, state licensing, and Medicaid standards.

    Jo has broad experience in behavioral health, substance use program development, operational leadership, and community collaboration.

    She holds a master’s degree in human services and is deeply invested in advancing behavioral health access through community partnerships, workforce development, and sustainable operational strategies.

    Jo enjoys travelling and spending time with her family. She also supports homeless communities and health care equality.

  • Sadie Cromarty, MBA

    Sadie Cromarty is the Chief Financial Officer at Behavior Balance PLLC, where she leads with precision, integrity, and a deep commitment to operational excellence. With experience spanning manufacturing, healthcare, and financial services, Sadie brings a strategic mindset to every facet of financial leadership — from month-end close and G/L reconciliation to ERP optimization and cross-functional collaboration.

    Her career includes impactful roles in RCM, AR/AP, Staff Accounting, team leads, where she promotes improvements, supported audit readiness, and helped teams navigate complex financial processes. Known for her analytical and approachable leadership style, Sadie thrives in dynamic environments where transparency and teamwork drive results.

    Sadie holds a BS in Accounting and Finance from Southern New Hampshire University and a MBA in International Business. She’s passionate about aligning financial strategy with long-term growth, and she believes that great finance leaders don’t just manage numbers — they empower people, build trust, and create clarity in complexity.

    Outside of work, Sadie enjoys solving puzzles, cooking creative meals, and spending quality time with her child. Whether she’s exploring a new recipe or tackling a brain teaser, she finds joy in quiet moments that recharge her focus and fuel her curiosity.
